SPRING 2008

REGISTRATION LETTER

Dear Manager and/or Player,

This letter contains basic information for the Commonwealth Soccer League, Inc. (CSL) Spring 2008 Season.  CSL will support three “Open” Divisions―First, Second, and Third (or Recreation)―and a 7v7 Recreation Division (men over 30 and women of any age).  Interested parties should contact the League by phone or at the Website for more information.  Note:  Players will be eligible to participate in both the Coed Division and one of the Open Divisions.

Team Registration Fee:  Open Divisions (11 v. 11) = $1,400 for each team; Coed Division (7 v. 7) = $650 for each team.  The Team Fee covers USASA team registration, fields, referees, etc.  Part of the $1,400 Team Fee for Open Division teams is a $200 Administration Deposit, which will be returned if the team provides personnel to assist in administration of the League (see “League Administration Deposit” below).  It is the League’s intent for the season to consist of a minimum of 8 games (any combination of regular season, playoff, and in-season tournament games).  Playoff format will vary depending on the number of teams in each division.

Player Registration:  Each player and manager is required to be registered with CSL.  The registration provides basic insurance (http://www.mdcvsa.org/insurancesummary.pdf) and player pass, which is valid for one “playing year.”  Players and managers must pay a New Player Registration Fee of $40 if they have not previously registered with CSL.  Replacement of a “lost” player pass is an additional $6.  All player/manager identification will be positively confirmed by comparing the person, the ID, and the copy presented.  More information on the League rules and requirements, including the registration process, can be found in the CSL Policies and Procedures (P&P) at www.commonwealthsoccer.org.

League Administration Deposit:  CSL depends primarily on volunteers to support operations, either as elected officers or by providing staff for its various committees.  While the League has grown rapidly over the past few years, the number of volunteers is decreasing.  CSL is currently operating because a few members are taking on multiple roles and responsibilities.  Without additional volunteers, CSL will either need to hire administrative assistance or reduce its operations.  In order to maintain operations, CSL is requiring teams to pay an Administration Deposit of $200 (which is included in the $1,400 Team Fee) that will enable CSL to contract for temporary assistance or compensate non-officers for carrying an inordinate burden of League administration.  Teams that provide members to help the League operate will have their $200 Administration Deposit refunded at the conclusion of the current season.
